As well as getting eight hours a night, getting regular exercise and eating a healthy, balanced diet, we try to take a teaspoon of high MGO rated Mānuka honey every day. But to change things up a bit, sometimes it’s nice to incorporate that honey into our everyday recipes. And what better time to do that than breakfast?
Here are a few tips and recipe ideas for using Mānuka honey in your breakfast. They’re all easy, quick and will help you make a teaspoon of honey a regular part of your breakfast routine.
Keep it simple, sweetener
Replace the sugar in your morning tea or coffee with high MGO rated Mānuka honey. You don’t need as much, and the good news is that The True Honey Co. Mānuka honey has been tested and proven to retain its unique properties in water as hot as 95°C (pretty much straight from the kettle).
Reach your granola goals
Whip up this lusciously scrumptious muesli upgrade with plump apricots and moreish walnuts, as created by the talented Mary Maddocks on her blog.
Stir a teaspoon of Mānuka honey into your bircher muesli or overnight oats, after adding your liquid (milk, nut milk, juice or water). Then pop in whatever else you fancy: chia, sunflower or pumpkin seeds, berries, grated apple or any other fruit that’s in season. A wee warning though. Citrus doesn’t combine so well with milk.
A toast to comfort food
Nothing better than hot buttered toast with honey. The more intense taste of Mānuka honey means you only need a very little for a rich flavour.
It’s all gone pear-shaped
Poach or stew fruits like apples, pears, apricots or even tamarillos in a little water with a teaspoon each of butter, Mānuka honey and spice. Cinnamon and ginger work beautifully. This fruit goes down a treat to sprucing up plain porridge, in a breakfast bowl or even over pancakes.
Flat out delicious
Speaking of pancakes, have you tried Mānuka honey drizzled over your stack? Works just as swimmingly on French toast or waffles.
